About Us

Bringing Model Aviation Enthusiasts Together

Tri-County R/C Club is a community of radio-controlled aviation enthusiasts who share a passion for building, flying, learning, and enjoying model aircraft.

Based at Rainbow Air Park in Dunnellon, Florida, our club provides a welcoming place where experienced pilots, new flyers, builders, and spectators can come together to enjoy the hobby. The club has approximately 100 members from Dunnellon and the surrounding communities.

Our flying field is sanctioned by the Academy of Model Aeronautics and is an FAA-Recognized Identification Area, commonly known as a FRIA. This allows members to enjoy recreational model aviation while following established AMA, FAA, and club safety requirements.

A Proud Local History

Our club has been part of the Central Florida model aviation community for nearly four decades. It was originally established as the Citrus County R/C Club, and today we’re called the Tri-County R/C Club. Over the years, the club has grown into a diverse group of aviation enthusiasts united by friendship, craftsmanship, and the enjoyment of flight. Read more.

What We Fly

Our members build and fly many different types of radio-controlled aircraft, including:

  • Traditional fixed-wing airplanes
  • Park flyers
  • Giant-scale aircraft
  • 3D aerobatic aircraft
  • Pattern aircraft
  • Gliders and soaring aircraft
  • Electric and ducted-fan jets
  • Radio-controlled helicopters

The variety of aircraft and experience within the club gives members many opportunities to exchange ideas, solve technical challenges, and learn from one another.

Turbine aircraft and racing, camera, or FPV drones are not permitted.

More Than a Flying Field

Tri-County R/C Club is about more than airplanes. It is a place to make friends, share knowledge, develop new skills, and help preserve the hobby of model aviation for future generations.

Throughout the year, the club hosts meetings, flying activities, special events, swap meets, and other opportunities for members and visitors to participate. Our members are always willing to talk about their aircraft, answer questions, and help others become more involved in the hobby.

Interested in Learning to Fly?

Getting started in radio-controlled aviation can feel complicated, but you do not have to learn alone. Club members can help new pilots understand aircraft selection, equipment, safety procedures, AMA requirements, and the fundamentals of flying.

Anyone interested in model aviation is encouraged to visit the field, meet our members, and see the hobby in action. Click here to start.
